What is it?
The LARZ Hiring Credit lets you claim a credit against your State taxes for qualifying employees. If your business is located in the LARZ, you can claim up to 50% of the wages of a qualified employee in year one, 40% in year two, 30% in year three, and so on until year five.
Where are the LARZ locations?
The LARZ was established to aid economic development in areas that suffered damage during the civil unrest of 1992. Parts of Huntington Park, Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Pomona are LARZ locations, as well as the entire cities of Compton, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lynwood, and Signal Hill.
Who counts as a ‘qualified employee’?
To qualify, an employee must have lived and worked in the LARZ during the period for which you are making a claim.
How can you benefit?
If your business was operating between 1995 and 1997, Universal Tax Services can help you take advantage of this incentive by amending your previous tax returns. Since you can carry forward tax credits for 15 years, the sooner you claim your entitled benefits, the better.

“Running a thriving Internal Medicine clinic in LA’s Chinatown, I’m a busy doctor and I’d never heard of LARZ until Universal Tax Services called me in 2002. With their help, I am using the tax credits I unknowingly earned years ago to give my business a boost now and in the future. So I can get on with the important job of caring for my patients each and every day.”
